In the present day scenario, there are vastu experts more in number everywhere like any other investment experts, architecture and design experts. Opinions on vastu differ from person to person. Here are some of the rules and principles to ensure vastu compliance of your home if you build or buy one.
1. Pre-construction
The primary thing that everyone must consider doing is to perform bhumi puja-to worship earth before starting to construct a house. This is considered a favourable beginning and signifies a good start to the events. Bhumi puja is performed on the land where a building is to be constructed. In villages, people worship land before starting the cultivation to yield good crops. The bhumi puja must be done towards the north-east direction of the plot. And also it is important to construct the compound wall before constructing a house.
2. House entrance
East is the most preferable direction to have entrances. Sun rises in the east. It is believed that keeping the entrance of a house towards east direction brings positivity inside a home. Other favourable directions are North-East and west. Avoid keeping entrances towards the south, south-west, north-west and south-east directions. Generally, materials used for the main door should be wood. For south-east direction, the door should be made in the combination of wood and metal. For the west, the door should have some metal work. For the east, the door should be made of wood and can be decorated with limited metal accessories. The villas in OMR are constructed facing east, west and north-east direction to bring positivity at home and drive away the negative energy.
3. Kitchen location
The ideal location for the kitchen is the south-east direction. The stove must be placed in the south-east direction while cooking is apparently done facing the east direction. The second best choice is the north-west direction. Food must not be served on the table placing at the center of the kitchen. The dining table should always place in the north-west corner of the room. South-east, south, west or north direction is suitable to keep the refrigerator. The north-east direction is a NO for the placement of the refrigerator. There are many other things to consider when choosing the location of the kitchen.
4. Master bedroom
For an east facing home, the master bedroom should be located at the south-west corner. Square and rectangular shaped bedrooms are advisable, such that the other parts of the house could be utilized for other purposes. Lockers in the bedroom should be kept facing north direction. The wardrobe or dressing table mirror should be placed on the eastern or western walls, not facing the bed. This ensures a good marital life. Having an attached bathroom would be fine if it does not face your bed directly and the door should be kept closed all the times.
5. Bathroom location
Bathroom location is another important aspect when it comes to both vastu and general health perceptions. North-west corner of the rooms or buildings is a favourable direction for bathrooms. If this is not possible, South-east is another preferable direction. It is good not to have bathrooms or toilets, puja rooms and kitchens adjacent to each other.
Mirrors should be placed on the east or north wall. Avoid toilets in the north-east or east direction. Bigger sized windows should be in the north and smaller windows in the west direction.
